Friday Is Our Favorite Day!

Happy Weekend, Everyone!

It was another fast week in second grade! It's hard to believe that it will be May next week and that there are less than 20 days of school left! We are half way done with our MAP testing; our MAP testing will be complete on Monday when we take the math test. Today we did math centers to help prepare for the MAP test. We focused on multiplication and division concepts. The kids came home with some of the practice sheets for these concepts. They are well prepared for Monday's test!

We are off to a great start with measurement! We have learned about several units of measurement such as inches, centimeters, yards and meters. We have learned how to measure a variety of items and we have also learned what tools to use. We learned about perimeter and how to find it. Kids - be sure to tell your parents what the fastest way to find it! Next week we will learn about additional units of measurement. We will also learn how to measure weight and volume and how to find area.

Our Eric Carle author study is going well! We have learned all about Eric Carle as a person, a graphic designer, an author and an illustrator. Our focus is on the comprehension strategy of visualization. We have learned how visualization can help us create images in our mind, think about and beyond text, make text to text connections and make text to self connections. Our author study will continue next week and we will learn how visualization can help us create additional dialogue for stories. We wrote about Eric Carle each day and these writing will be combined into a paper all about Eric Carle.

We had a lot of fun learning all about contractions! We are working to create a contraction chart with all the contraction categories. These will be a great resource to the kids to use in their writing. Contractions can be tricky and I am impressed with how hard the kids are working to learn them!

A big THANK YOU to the 4 children who correctly answered all the questions on my blog this week! I hope you enjoy your prizes :)! Thank you to all the children who participated! This week 7/25 children participated. Next week I hope that 25/25 children (or 1 WHOLE class!) will be up for the challenge! Be sure to check my blog early in the week and see if you can answer all the questions!

Our classroom is neat and clean and ready for next week! It's so clean that we are almost out of baby wipes; we use these to clean the surfaces in the room. We are also almost out of snacks. If anyone could donate some baby wipes and healthy snacks, that would be wonderful! Thank you so much for your generosity and support over the last few months!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Question 1.
    1. Linear: Miles, MM's, CM's, inches, yards, meters. Example: Use it when you measure your desk.
    2. Volume and Capacity: Gallons, quarts, cup. Example: You could use it when your following a recipe
    3. Weight: lbs, ounces. Example: Use this to weigh your kid

    2. Inference: An example of inference is when we look at the whote board and we read the information on the first board and try to figure out what that has to do with the next screen on the white board???

    3. Text to Text: This is whne you connect something form one book to another book. The Very Hungry Hungry Catrtpillar and the Diary of a Worm are connected becasue in the diary of a worm, the worm ate his homework beacuse he was very hungry and in the Very Hungry Caterpillar, the caterpialr eats too much and gets a stomach ache.

    4. If you are doing a coloring project you have to visualize what comes up in your head as a picture.

    5. We're learning about measurement. There are 4 types of measurement that we studied. There are a lot of things to measure all around. You're going to be measurement experts soon! What would you like to measure in our classroom?

I would like to measure the wall.
