Friday Is Our Favorite Day!

We had another action packed week in 2nd grade! Kids - I am so proud of you for sticking with the new and tricky material and for staying focused. Way to go!

Our study of weather is almost complete. Everyone did a great job on the Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs study! This week we studied about clouds, storms and some of the more wild elements of weather. We read several weather related books and we used the Smart Board to read about weather.

This week was a super week for writing! We worked on our 4th quarter assessment, edited our weather acrostic poems and we had several Writers' Workshops to practice our editing skills. The second graders did an awesome job of focusing on the six traits of writing and doing their very best work. Well done!

We continued to work on fractions, and we will finish our study next week. We spent a lot of time learning about equivalent fractions. They can be tricky, so remember to use the tools you have. And, as always, it's about thinking, not guessing!

Stanford 10 Testing is next week on Monday and Tuesday. We worked on test taking strategies, skills for success and we took practice tests. Throughout the week, your children brought home several practice tests. These tests covered reading, language and math. The format of the tests helped the kids get into the test taking frame of mind and give them practice with bubbling test sheets. Everyone did a super job staying focused and doing their best!

There will be no homework or new spelling lists next week. We will have Home Links, and those will begin on Tuesday. Be sure to check back on my blog and look at the 5 questions early in the week!!!

Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Johnston
