Happy Rodeo!

Happy Rodeo, Second Graders! Enjoy the time off!

Our Storybook Parade was a HUGE success! Everyone in our class dressed up to celebrate the day - I am so proud of all of you. Great job! It was so much fun to learn about all of your favorite books and see your creative costumes. Thank you to all the parents who were able to come out and watch the parade.

We had a great Rodeo Week! Even though it was a short week, we learned a lot and we had a lot of fun! We read many different books on Arizona, the rodeo and horseback riding. Parents - be sure to ask your child what he or she learned about our great state! We finished our study on the human body as well. Our study ended with a group project. Students worked with their table groups to write a report on the systems in the human body. The students researched, brainstormed to create webs, did pre-writes, wrote rough drafts, edited their rough drafts and, finally, wrote a final report in their best penmanship! The reports are wonderful and I am so proud of the way the students worked collaboratively to complete their work.

We have an exciting week following Rodeo Break. We will begin our study on Awesome Asia! I just returned from the library with lots of books that have wonderful pictures and interesting information. These books will be a great help as we begin our study!

The Book Fair is coming! The library is buzzing with excitement for the upcoming book fair! Our library day will change to Monday this week, so please remember to bring your books back on Monday. This will be our last time to check books out before Spring Break. Our normal schedule will resume after Spring Break. Our class will get a sneak peak of the Book Fair on Friday, March 5 at 1:00. I can't wait to see all the great books!

Have a great weekend! See you Monday!

We have Rodeo Break this Thursday and Friday, February 25 - 26. Enjoy your days off and have lots of fun! Please remember that we will not have a homework packet since it's a short week. Friday Is Our Favorite Day!

It was a great day in second grade! Everyone had fun bringing in and showing their dioramas! Thank you to all the parents for coming to see the hard work of the students. I look forward to reading the book reports and looking at the dioramas. Great job, everyone!

In addition to our fun diorama open house this morning, we did a few new things today. We took a mini-field trip to another class to learn about the
Rainbow Club. Kids - be sure to tell your parents about the Rainbow Club! We will brainstorm ideas for our Rainbow Club next week and we will start it after Rodeo Break. We also had the opportunity to check out our new class blog today in computers. There was an activity on our class blog for students to do during computer time. Busy bees - remember to show your parents how you can post a comment on our blog! We learned a lot today in computers - be sure to show your parents what you know! Parents - you can check our blog on Fridays to see what your students will be doing in computers.

Our day ended with the counting of our bee bucks! Many students were able to deposit their bee bucks in the bank and buy a toy from our treasure hive. Keep up the good work, my friends!

Parents - I have an open house scheduled for Tuesday, March 2, immediately following our early out dismissal. It will give you a chance to come check out our new classroom, ask any questions you may have and sign up for times to volunteer in our busy bee hive! Kids - you are welcome to come with your parents and show them our great class!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Welcome To Our Class Blog!

Thanks for buzzin' over to our class blog! I hope you enjoy our new page. Please be sure to check out the five questions for the week and our poll on the Olympics.

February has been an exciting month full of new faces, a field trip and even a new room! This month we worked on building and strengthening our new community. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know my new class. They are a wonderful group of students. Their intelligence and humor make each day so great! Through our community building activities, the students have learned many new things about each other. The students had fun helping create our community and learning fun and interesting things about their friends.

We had a fantastic field trip to Bodyology on February 8. Slim Goodbody was entertaining and he taught us a lot of information about the amazing human body. We are finishing up our human body unit and our second graders are now experts on the circulatory, digestive and respiratory systems. The class is working in groups of five to finish a report on the systems of the human body.

This week we learned about collaboration and its benefits to our classroom. We worked collaboratively on introductions, guided reading, math and our human body report. Collaboration is key in our classroom!

We have an exciting week next week with our Storybook Parade and Rodeo! The Storybook Parade is Wednesday, February 24. I have my costume for the Storybook Parade picked out, but, shhh - it's a surprise! Since it is a short week, we will not have a homework packet. Please continue to have your child read 20 minutes per night, and please encourage your child to visit Ticket to Read. Our usual homework packets will resume after we return from Rodeo Break.

Have a wonderful weekend!
